Volunteer drivers urgently needed

Could you join a team that helps some of the most vulnerable elderly people in the area every week?

The Meadows needs more help to ensure as many people as possible who use their services are able to access them.

Around 45 volunteers in the Spalding and District branch help to bus people to the day centre or maintain the charity’s furniture shops in Pinchbeck and Holbeach.

But more are needed, particularly to help people get to the day centre.

General manager Liz Walmsley said: “We’re not too bad with regards to volunteers at the day centre and for those who drive users there, but we need more people to help those drivers and to help out in the shops.

“We need people to help escort the drivers who ensure that everyone has their seatbelt on and the doors are locked.

“Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to provide the services we do.”

The day centre helps bring people together every day for games and events when otherwise they would be alone.

Liz says of volunteering: “A lot of the volunteers have been here a number of years.

“It’s about giving something back in a service you may need yourself in the future and volunteers get a lot out of helping those that need it.”
