Temporary home for car spares business as builders move in

A motor parts business has opened its doors in Spalding again after a fire ripped through its premises earlier this year.

Work is currently under way on demolishing part of the Pinchbeck location of AGM (Complete Parts and Component Solutions) Ltd after the fire in May which destroyed £200,000 of stock.

But staff this week opened the doors of a temporary home on Spalding Common where it is business as usual for the company which is in its 40th year.

The fire, which started as the result of an electrical fault, all but destroyed the Cresswell Close premises on the Benner Road Industrial Estate.

The company has another branch in Sleaford and was able to transfer staff and keep the trade customers supplied from there.

“Our customers have been very supportive, but we have lost some walk-in trade so being open again in Spalding is important,” said managing director Adrian Moore.

Mr Moore, one of three directors at the company, said staff had initially been redeployed to Sleaford and no jobs had been lost as a result of the fire.

“The fire damaged building is being totally re-built and we should be back in there in about 18 months,” said Mr Moore.

He added that fire investigators concluded the blaze started in a faulty light or wiring on the first floor.

The doors to the Spalding Common site, near Ashwood Care Home, officially opened on Tuesday.

The business is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 8.30am to noon on Saturdays.
It has retained its telephone number of 01775 711141.
