Saturday football: Holbeach United and Moulton Harrox see their title hopes fade

A defeat at Eynesbury Rovers on Saturday saw Holbeach United’s hopes of winning the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division take a sizeable hit.

A first-half goal from Danny Draper sentenced the Tigers to a 1-0 loss at Eynesbury, which means they are now seven points behind leaders Yaxley with just three games left to play.

Seb Hayes’ Holbeach (fourth) do host second-placed Wisbech Town on Wednesday night (7.45pm) and third-placed Newport Pagnell next Saturday (3pm), so they’ll certainly have a say in where the title goes.

Meanwhile, ChromaSport UCL Division One champions Pinchbeck United were left kicking their heels as their scheduled game at Stewarts and Lloyds was postponed due to a power failure.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox lost to Netherton United for the second time in four days to fall ten points behind the Premier Division leaders in the table – albeit with two games in hand.

First-half goals from Zack Fisher and Tom Randall gave Netherton a 2-1 win, although Matt Watkin did haul Harrox level at one point at Broad Lane.

Also in the Premier Division, Cal Davies and an own goal steered Holbeach Reserves to a 2-0 victory over Langtoft United to make it five wins on the spin for Phil Barnes’ side.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic clinched promotion to the top flight with a 4-0 victory at Netherton Reserves.

Champions Moulton Reserves also won 4-0 at Stamford Belvedere, while already-promoted Tydd St Mary saw off Kings Cliffe 3-0.
