Ex-police volunteer guilty of sexual touching

A former police volunteer based in Holbeach has been fined after being found guilty of sexual touching.

Timothy Smith (66) was found to have hugged and kissed a woman inappropriately, Lincolnshire Police say.

Following a trial, magistrates in Nottingham found the former volunteer for both the police and the town’s Police Cadets group guilty of the incident that took place on May 9.

He was fined £1,200 and must pay costs of £650 and a £480 surcharge.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “Smith denied the allegations that at Spalding Police Station on May 9, 2025, he hugged a woman from behind and went on to kiss her forehead.

“He had asked about arrangements for the next day, by using the term ‘What’s the foreplay for tomorrow?’.

“His actions were witnessed by others in the same room.

“Smith is a former police volunteer and cadet leader and has resigned from both positions.

“The offence does not relate to a young person or person connected to the Volunteer Police Cadet programme.”

Smith resigned from his position when police announced the charges in September.
