Saturday football: Defeats all round as Spalding United and Pinchbeck United exit FA Cup and Holbeach United beaten at home

It was a day of defeats for South Holland’s big three on Saturday as Spalding United lost 1-0 at home to Stamford in the Emirates FA Cup, Pinchbeck United went down 3-2 at Shepshed Dynamo in the same competition and Holbeach United were beaten 2-1 at home by AFC Sudbury Reserves in Thurlow Nunn League Division One North.

Starting with Spalding, they were looking to grab a second-successive derby victory in the FA Cup after dumping out Deeping Rangers in the last round.

But they found Stamford too tough a nut to crack in front of a bumper crowd of 468 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field and a strike from Jonathon Margetts on 26 minutes settled the contest in the away side’s favour.

Before this game, Spalding also drew 0-0 at Cambridge City in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division last Wednesday night.

Pinchbeck are also out of the FA Cup, but can be proud of their efforts in losing 3-2 against Step Four side Shepshed Dynamo at Butthole Lane.

Elliot Foster (35) and Benjamin Johnson (75) got the goals gave their hosts a real run for their money.

Meanwhile, Holbeach lost their second game on the spin in their new league as AFC Sudbury Reserves beat them 2-1 at Carter’s Park.

Harvey Henderson got the goal for the Tigers, who are now 14th in the early standings.

They have a chance to bounce back at FC Parson Drove on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

In the PDFL Premier Division, Declan Earth and Louis Steadman scored as Moulton Harrox won 2-1 at Oakham United and got their first win of the season.

But Holbeach Reserves lost 1-0 at FC Peterborough and Tydd were seen off 4-0 at home by Stilton United.

In Division One, In Division One, Long Sutton lost 3-1 at Netherton Reserves and Pinchbeck Reserves were seen off 3-0 at home by Whittlesey Reserves.
