Spalding Town 2nd’s two-game winning run in South Lincs and Border League Division One was emphatically ended by Grantham on Saturday.

Hosts Grantham won the toss – and had no hesitation in batting on a wearing pitch. They were soon 15-2 when young George Senior ran out Adrian Wing (0) and Sanj Tott (1-9) bowled Paul Johnson.

However, Josh Mihill (66) and Matthew Wing (76) rebuilt the innnings as both passed 50 in style.

Rain then caused a slight delay, but when they returned 13-year-old Senior grabbed his first wicket for the seconds and Ansar Hussain claimed 2-47 to limit Grantham to 177-7.

In reply, Town found batting very a different proposition with runs being very hard to come by – and they were soon reduced to 21-5 with Mike Kearns (9), Mick East (2), Simon Juckes (0), Ansar Hussain (4) and Sajid Hussain (3) all back in the hutch.

Young James Hook (13) and Jamie Juckes (17) dug in well to take the score to 53, before Hook fell.

Jimmy Clarke also went without troubling the scorers, before Keith De Keyser (2) and Tott (0) were dismissed to leave Spalding all out 61 in the 29th over – some 116 runs short.

Spalding’s stand-in skipper Jamie Juckes said: “The game was played in difficult conditions and I felt that we fielded very well.

“It was good to see young George Senior pick up a wicket and Jimmy Hook bat with such maturity.

“We will try our best to lift our heads back up for Saturday’s game with Market Deeping.”
