Area salutes the armed forces

Veterans, cadets and dignitaries marched around Spalding’s Market Place on Saturday (June 27) to mark Armed Forces Day.

It is the culmination of Armed Forces Week, a celebration of those who have served the country past and present, their families and cadet organisations.

Spalding has held a parade every year but has previously held it on a Tuesday.

The decision was made this year to hold it on to Armed Forces Day itself.

A host of dignitaries were a part of the parade led by the Veteran Support Services and their bikers as well as the Peterborough Highland Pipe Band.

Also in line were the recently launched Spalding Sea Cadets and representatives from Lincolnshire Police.

The event is organised by the Royal British Legion with South Holland District Council.

It’s chairman Jan Whitbourn said: “It was an amazing event.

“Thank you to everyone who did so much to make it happen.”
