Time to Celebrate the River in Spalding

After being hailed a huge success in its inaugural year, Spalding’s Celebrate The River Festival is back this Sunday (July 5).

Once again a flotilla will be winding its way down the River Welland between The Moorings pub and Welland Yacht Club.

And both of those will be hosting events around it.

Anyone with a safe craft can take part in the flotilla alongside the likes of the Spalding Sea Cadets, Spalding Water Taxi and Sutton Bridge Coastguard.

It starts at 12pm at Welland Yacht Club with a pilates or yoga warm up session before the safety briefing and departure ahead of the 1pm launch of boats heading to The Moorings pub on Commercial Road.

At around 4pm those involved will make their way back down river to the club which is also offering opportunities to try some of its crafts throughout the day.

If you would like to be a part of the flotilla it’s £5 per person with all profits going to the RNLI.

You’ll be given a wristband which includes a bacon sandwich and tea or coffee at the club and burger/hot dog at The Moorings.

You should wear suitable gear and must wear a lifejacket.

A spokesman for the event said: “Join us for the Celebrate the River Day 2026, a fantastic community event held at the Welland Yacht Club.

“The day will feature a spectacular flotilla of craft travelling down the River Welland to the Moorings pub for the ‘Half Way House’ sponsored by Sedge Estate Agents, alongside a full programme of family-friendly activities, community stalls, and river-based entertainment.

“At approximately 1pm, the flotilla will head downriver towards The Moorings Pub, where spectators can enjoy viewing from bridges and riverside spots along the route.

“This promises to be a fun, community-filled day celebrating our river and local organisations.”
