Spalding slip-up in seesaw clash

Spalding lost out by five runs in a nail-biting finish to their Lincs Premier League Premier Division encounter with Bourne.

The visitors had posted 162 and in reply Spalding were looking good for victory at 136/7, having recovered from 90/7.
However, they lost their last three wickets for 21 runs to go down by five runs with 16 balls to go.
A seesaw encounter had seen Spalding reduce Bourne from 51/3 to 65/6 and then 150/7 to 162 all out.
Nilantha Atapattu led the home attack, claiming 5-22 from his ten overs, with three maidens.
He was well supported by Josh Lawrence (3-22), with Mustafa Mughal and Ollie Dring also taking a wicket each as only three Bourne batsmen managed to reach double figures.
However, 17 wides in 32 extras would prove to be decisive.
The Spalding reply started slowly with Chris Dring and Lawrence both back in the pavilion with only six runs on the board.
Opener Divyeash Vaseeharan (30) and Atapattu (29) led the home resistance with lower order support from Jamie Coles (25) before George Hix (16) and Walter Kinlock (15) led a late, but ultimately unsuccessful, charge to the winning line.
Josh Newton led Moulton Harrox to a quickfire Championship South victory at Bourne Seconds.
After the hosts had made 155/9 from their 50 overs, Moulton needed just 23 to reach a winning 156/3, inspired by Newton’s 59-ball unbeaten 87, which included two 6s and 15 4s.
Ruari Drumm also scored 23, with Anish Suwarneraj hitting an unbeaten 13 to see their team over the line, after they had lost both openers with only 21 runs scored.
Drumm had been the pick of the visiting bowlers with 4-29 from his nine overs, with Harry Lovell (2-17) and Oli Despicht (2-20) also impressing as the hosts lost wickets in clusters, slipping from 60/0 to 73/3 and 101/3 to 119/8.
South Lincolnshire derby honours went to visitors Long Sutton in emphatic fashion in Division One South.
After bowling out Moulton Harrox Seconds for 56, Sutton lost just one wicket in their winning response as they stayed in the title race.
Eranda Munasinghege (15) and Zak Maddison (10) looked to have turned things round after a slow start but when they were parted with the innings on 39 that sparked a run of nine wickets for nine runs.
Jake Burton (5-14) and Rob Simpson (3-7) did all that damage to leave the hosts all out in the 26th over.
Calvin Bird hit a 24-ball 29 to take Sutton to the brink of victory before falling on 54, with Rajan Sangha (24no) seeing them over the line in the 11th over at 58/1.
A solid batting display was not quite enough to earn Spalding Seconds victory at Baston in Division Two South.
Chasing a target of 182/7, Spalding ran out of balls on 174/9, despite seven of their batsmen getting into double figures.
Elliot Humphreys led the way with 45 from 53 balls, coming in at no.8, while Dan Mulley (32) also scored well and five others got into their teens.
Humphreys (2-31) and Stan Mountain (2-32) had been the pick of the Spalding attack in Baston’s innings, which was held together by opener Sam Webster’s 66.
Long Sutton Seconds set what looked to be a testing target of 208/7 for visitors Skegness Seconds in pursuit of their first win of the season.
Ali Drohan (52), Ethan English (40), Paul Rushen (38) and Callum John (35no) all scored well but it proved insufficient as the visitors knocked up a winning response of 210/4 with almost five over in hand.
Captain Shaun Dawson was their match-winner, with the opener finishing unbeaten on 91.
