Old youth club helps new one to expand

A hugely popular new youth club can now meet more often thanks in part to the memory of ‘Mr Pinchbeck’.

The youth club at the Pinchbeck Hub has proved a huge success, running on the first Wednesday of every month, so much so it’s sought the funding to enable it to open more.

Step forward Susan Rolfe, who previously ran a similar club along with Chris Schofield, who was known as ‘Mr Pinchbeck’ and passed away earlier this year.

There is still money left in the account from the previous youth club, so Susan has passed it on to the new youth club at the Pinchbeck Hub, so it can take place twice a month when it reconvenes in September.

“Unfortunately we had to vacate the village hall where the weekly meetings were held and with nowhere else to go the club folded,” Mrs Rolfe said of the previous club. “As we had been very successful at fundraising there was money left in account.

“Imagine my excitement when a new youth club was formed.

“The youth club has been a great success, so it was decided to give the rest to them and close the account.

“We are so pleased that now extra sessions can be held and long may it continue.

“There has been a decline in youth clubs over the years but they still have a part to play.

“Technology is here to stay but meeting your peers in a friendly and safe space, playing table tennis and pool, learning new skills, interacting and celebrating together must be a good thing, so it has come full circle.”

The Pinchbeck Community Land Trust and Pinchbeck Parish Council put money in to help Lincolnshire YMCA in running the group and Greencore has also provided funding for extra sessions.

Parish councillor John Smith was involved in setting up the youth club.

“The youth club has gone from strength to strength, and we are very grateful to all the volunteers and Lincolnshire YMCA who make it happen.

“The people, organisations and businesses of Pinchbeck are so very generous and following the recent story in The Voice we received these amazing donations and are now able to deliver the youth club twice a month from September.

“I am sure the young people of Pinchbeck will be delighted to hear this.”
