Spate of leaks ‘due to hot spell’

Anglian Water says the recent hot weather has led to a spate of water leaks in the area.

Due to the lack of recent rain a hosepipe ban has been imposed by the water company.

But it has also led to frustration from customers when they have seen heavy leaks.

One has sprung just outside the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field in Spalding’s town centre.

It adds to another reported in the town in Broad Street.

Meanwhile, Karen Wallis of Low Fulney told The Voice another burst main has been pouring out since Sunday, July 12.

Just a few days ago Anglian Water had stopped the flow on part of the road, but barriers still remained around the site.

“I have had conversations with Anglian Water where they keep saying that the repair is due on that day,” she said. “The water was pouring into the ditch at a large flow rate and I find it incredibly frustrating to witness this on a daily basis for a fortnight, especially as we are subject to a hosepipe ban.”

“Another leak about 50 yards up the road has not been fixed.”

A spokesman for Anglian Water, said: “An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “During periods of hot weather, the high temperatures can cause ground movement that results in an increase of burst water mains or leaks.

“Our teams continue working hard through the hot weather to prioritise repairs that are having the greatest impact on customers’ water supplies and those resulting in the highest water loss.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while we respond to the challenges created by this period of exceptionally warm weather.”
