The Sheep Market public toilets have been opened to the public after years of being shut.
They’ve been closed following vandalism and a huge makeover including making them into Changing Places toilets designed for disabled people to use.
A council spokesman said the new toilets have larger designated rooms with individual external doors, infrared heating panels and motion detected lighting and new baby changing facilities including a breastfeeding area.
There’s a new ventilation system and technology to ‘eliminate unwanted odours’.
The Changing Places element consists of a large accessible toilet with the inclusion of a ceiling hoist, privacy screen, adult-sized height adjustable changing bench, and a peninsular toilet.
A council spokesman continued: “To help combat the risk of vandalism and anti-social behaviour steel security doors have been installed, with the exterior of the facilities improved with the replacement of paving and fencing around the building, with additional bollards to create a safe pedestrian zone.
“Seating has been installed outside the Changing Places facility, along with a new bicycle parking area.”
