Moulton Harrox were without a game in the South Lincs and Border League Championship and slipped off top spot as a result, being overtaken by Burghley Park.
Instead the spotlight fell on the club’s second XI, who delivered a comprehensive 105-run victory against Baston in Division Two.
Batting first, Blake Wolstenholme and Clive Bayston rocketed the score past 50, with Bayston eventually dismissed for 18. Wolstenholme reached his 50, before being bowled with the score on 75/2.
Interesting running saw Flynn McMillan run out for 18. Ruari Drumm and Tom Richardson-Woodward built a steady partnership and saw the score through to 145/5. The previous week’s hero Simon Juckes holed out for six, bringing Cam Fox to the crease.
A brilliant partnership saw Drumm reach another 50, while Fox finished on 46 not out and the score on 219-5.
In-form Juckes destroyed the Baston top order, taking 4-27 and two wickets for Fox and one for Zak Maddison saw Baston in significant trouble.
A flurry of wickets from Junaid Alam (3-5) in just 3.3 overs saw the Baston innings end on 114, with Ben Hudson (27) their top scorer.
p A superb double performance from Spalding’s u19s in the County Cup South triangular tournament saw them see off the challenge of both Bourne and Moulton Harrox.
Playing the 100-ball format was a first for most of the players and, with several unavailable due to county commitments and holidays, Spalding had to call up two of their u11 team ‘big guns’, James Frascella and Olly Wilson.
They opened with a six-wicket win against Bourne with George Hix top scoring on 36 chasing a target of 117/7. They then saw off Moulton by 14 runs, after scoring 176/4 with Ollie Dring (50ret) and Hix (45no) doing the damage.
Moulton beat Bourne by eight wickets to take second place. Openers McMillan (44) and Fox (28) got them off to a terrific start, on the way to 106/2 in just 60 balls. Wolstenholme took 3-14 to restrict Bourne to 105/8.
