Visitors take spoils in both derby encounters

Local bragging rights went to the away teams in both derby encounters on Saturday.

In the Lincolnshire County Board Premier League, Spalding finally chalked up their first win of the campaign at the 11th attempt, with a two-wicket victory at the Paradise Field home of Long Sutton.
That moved them one place up the table but cast the hosts ten points adrift at the foot.
The visitors were on top from the start with Nilantha Atapattu (4-4 from ten overs with six maidens) removing both openers as Sutton were reduced to 42-7 before Josh Baker joined Uddyan Hansana at the crease. Baker hit 15 of a 60-run eighth-wicket partnership with Hansana going on to make 51 before falling lbw to Ollie Dring (1-34) after hitting a pair of 6s and six fours.
Last man captain Jake Burton then added 16 of a 10th-wicket partnership of 33 with Charlie Crisp (7no) as the hosts hung on to record 152 all out in the 40th over.
Barnaby Dring (3-18) took the last wicket, with all five Spalding bowlers earning reward, including Keyan Gace (1-43) and Brandon Andrews (1-44).
Victory looked a formality for Spalding when they romped to 122/2 after good knocks from Barnaby Dring (44), Ollie Dring (37), Gace (25) and Jamie Coles (19).
However, Burton took all those wickets and went on to finish with 6-46 as the hosts hit back to grab five wickets for just seven runs as Spalding slumped from 141/3 to 148/8.
It led to an exciting finale as Sutton tried to take the remaining two wickets while their opponents sought the five more runs they needed for victory.
It was left to Chris Dring to hit a four and a single to go with Atapattu’s single to get the visitors over the line in the 28th over.
Davico Kruger was Sutton’s other successful bowler, taking 2-19.
Meanwhile, in Division One of the South Lincs and Border League, it was Sutton Seconds celebrating success, after seeing off their Spalding counterparts on their home territory by seven wickets.
That pushed the visitors up to seventh spot in the standings, leaving Spalding 30 points behind them and just four ahead of basement side Royal Boston.
Spalding won the toss and elected to bat but soon regretted that decision as they lost three of their top five batsmen for ducks.
It was left to opener Yuvraj Ranaut (20) and wicketkeeper Luke Sorrell (24) to improve the volume of runs before Sam Webster (30no) and Carl Andrews (29) added some respectability to the score with a solid mid-innings partnership.
Thomas Decamps (13) was the only other home batsman to reach double figures as they were despatched for 123 in the 32nd over.
Thilina Dilshan (3-1), Edward Munson (3-27) and Rajan Sangha (3-34) did the bulk of the damage with Faz Mukhtar (1-21) also successful, while Callum John stifled the run flow with 0-13 from his six overs.
Captain Aron John led the visitors’ charge to victory with 45, in partnership with fellow opener Sangha (40) despite frugal bowling from Thomas Decamps (0-15 in five overs) and Robert Seymour (0-21 from eight).
Leighton Graham claimed both openers on his way to 3-34 but Dominic Clay (13) took Sutton to the brink of victory before Jack Baker (13no) and Philip Barnes (1no) saw them over the line on 124/3 with one ball of the 26th over remaining.
Spalding’s third team conceded their Division Three match at Heckington Seconds, as did Long Sutton in their Rutland Sunday match at home to Peterborough Town.
