Wednesday football: Penalty shoot-out woe for Tigers, Pinchbeck into semi-finals

Holders Holbeach United went out of the Lincs FA Senior Trophy after a semi-final defeat to Deeping Rangers on Wednesday night, while Pinchbeck United booked their place in the last four of the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

Starting with the Tigers, they went 1-0 up early on in their semi-final showdown at Carter’s Park when Billy Smith bagged another stunning effort from a free-kick.

Henry Dunn soon levelled from the penalty spot, only for James Tricks to head Holbeach into a 2-1 half-time lead.

That’s how it stayed all the way up until the 87th minute, when Luke Hunnings nodded a leveller for Deeping.

Penalties followed, with both Josh Ford and Smith missing as the Tigers missed out 4-3.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck United were made to work hard by old foes Netherton as they won 3-2 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Luke Wilson and Lee Beeson netted to give Ian Dunn’s side a 2-0 lead, but the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division side hit back to make it 2-2 by the early stages of the second half.

However, Harry Limb’s late penalty booked the Knights a Hinchingbrooke Cup semi-final showdown with Peterborough Norther Star.

More on both games to follow.
