Voluntary sessions were a hoot

Local wildlife watchers got front seats for a flypast by some spectacular feathered friends last week.

Leading health and wellbeing charity, Royal Voluntary Service, and long-term supporter, Yakult, hosted a free event for older people to meet Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre, Spalding’s resident birds of prey, as part of their Safe, Warm and Well winter wellbeing campaign.

Light refreshments were served afterwards in the Baytree Garden Centre café, and participants took home a goodie bag and a supportive Stay Safe, Warm and Well guide which sets out vital information including exercise and nutritional advice, energy-saving tips, essential NHS and emergency contact details, and details of how to ensure your home is gas safe.

Andrea Briggs, local activity co-ordinator for Royal Voluntary Service, said: “Winter can be a challenging time, particularly for older people, people with long-term health conditions, or those that might be living alone. With generous support from our friends at Yakult, this wonderful free event got people out and about and enjoying the wonders of nature.

“Being social and active is a great way to support our physical and mental wellbeing ready for the winter months ahead, and our Stay Safe, Warm and Well guide is a helpful, practical resource for people needing a little extra support this winter.”
