Village hub gets a helping hand

An appeal for clothes and equipment has been issued after a developer joined forces with a local charity to offer a much needed service.

The Hand Me Down Hub is a community group operating in and around Spalding offering support to pregnant women and families with children, up to the age of five, through the distribution of donated clothing and equipment.

It was started four years ago by Kay Marsh in her spare bedroom, but has proven so popular she’s recently expanded and moved into new rented premises on Priory Road.

Recently it has teamed up with Market Deeping-based Burmor Construction, which is building in Pinchbeck, to become a collection point ahead of one of its distribution days at Pinchbeck Community Hub and Library.

They want as many donations as possible ahead of the next distribution day at Pinchbeck Community Hub and Library from 10am on Saturday, September 6. They need donations of clothes by Monday, September 1.

They can be dropped off at the Pinchbeck Hub or at Burmor’s headquarters on Sunderland Road in Market Deeping.

Other donations being sought are bedding and towels, play equipment and items for babies and young children.
They’re then sorted through.

“Families don’t need a referral, everyone’s welcome,” said Kay. “The majority of our clients come to us via our Facebook page or through recommendations from their family/friends who’ve already used our service.

“We also work alongside local support organisations wherever possible.

“We hold regular ‘pop up’ events at Pinchbeck Community Hub and Library where families can drop in and take what they need.

“We help many families for free but welcome financial contributions, of any size, where possible, to help with our running costs.

“A huge thank you goes to John Smith, of Pinchbeck Parish Council, who has been extremely supportive of our project and helped us secure much needed funding, and to Burmor Construction.”

A spokesman for Burmor Construction said: “We are proud to have launched our second community initiative in Pinchbeck since starting work on our latest project.

“We continue to support local people and organisations, ensuring our developments leave a positive and lasting impact beyond the construction site.
“On Saturday, September 6 at the Pinchbeck Community Hub, we’ll be hosting a cake sale alongside the fantastic

Hand Me Down Hub – a volunteer-led initiative.
“All proceeds from the cake sale will go directly to support the ongoing work of the Hand Me Down Hub.”
