Ian Dunn is refusing to get too downbeat with Pinchbeck United’s plight ahead of a potentially huge game at Desborough Town on Saturday (3pm).
The Knights are just one point clear of the solitary relegation spot in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division after picking up just five points from 19 games.
Sleaford Town, the only side beneath them, broke their duck for the season with a 1-0 win over 18th-placed Desborough last Saturday and have moved to sign a host of players – including ex-Holbeach United defender Joe Braithwaite – in a bid to stay up.
Dunn isn’t overly concerned by events elsewhere, but admits that his side need to break their unwanted streak of losing 15 games on the spin by improving up their record of scoring just once in their last six matches.
“Desborough are in a similar situation to us,” said Dunn. “They’ve been struggling and lost to Sleaford last weekend.
“We need to go there and be solid, much like we were for most of the game at Oadby.
“We’ve made some good additions to the squad in recent weeks, but with Ollie Maltby injured, we’ve just not got that goal-scorer.
“We need to get in their face a bit and try to have some meaningful possession.
“That should help us create chances and, if we can take the lead, it’ll really change things for us as we’re often having to chase games.
“I won’t spend much time worrying about Sleaford’s win and signing spree. It has obviously given them a boost, but we’ve got to focus on ourselves and end this run of losing games.
“I don’t expect the pitch will be in great shape at Desborough and the weather isn’t too good at the moment. So it’ll be about digging in and trying to get something.”
Pinchbeck, who handed a debut to new left back Odie Wason last weekend, are hopeful of drafting in a striker for Saturday’s game.
Meanwhile, Tuesday night’s home clash with Rothwell Corinthians was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
