Following last year’s successful inaugural Tulip Mania Festival at Springfields a new Prince and Princess was appointed as part of the festivities and the two winners, Joseph Porter and Georgia van Dyke have been busy ever since “officiating” at numerous community events around the Spalding area.
One of the judges of the competition last May, John Hayes, MP very kindly invited the two winners plus chaperones, to the House of Commons last week where they enjoyed a tour of the Palace of Westminster as well as having tea with our MP.
They saw both Houses sitting, debating a variety of different issues as well as learning a little of the history of our Parliament courtesy of the Minister’s aides who were a mine of unusual and interesting information.
Additionally, the finalists from the Tulip Queen competition were also invited. Sadly, reigning Tulip Queen Amy Cook was unable to attend but her deputy, Kimberley Fisher and her fellow finalists all came along.
All posed for pictures with the iconic Big Ben tower (St Stephen’s Tower) in the background and came away with very happy memories of a very happy day which many will remember for many years to come.
This year’s Tulip Mania festival is currently being organised as a joint effort between Tulip Radio and David Norton of Springfields and entries for the Prince and Princess are being sought for the competition on Saturday, May 2, at Springfields Events Centre.
There are many prizes on offer and we have several entries for both events.
The Tulip Queen, Amy Cook will be at Tulip Mania and of course a new Tulip Queen will be appointed as part of Spalding’s Christmas Light Switch On in November.
In the meantime, Amy will have much to look forward to during the summer as she opens numerous events in and around South Holland.
