Trio named flower parade patrons

Three people have been named patrons of the Spalding Flower Parade.

They are the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire Toby Dennis, South Holland MP Sir John Hayes and Coun Jan Whitbourn BEM, the chairman of South Holland District Council.

A spokesman for the Spalding Flower Parade committee said: “Their collective support marks a significant milestone in the continued revival and growth of one of the region’s most cherished cultural events.

“As the King’s representative in the county, the Lord Lieutenant’s patronage reflects the parade’s growing regional and national profile.

“Mr Dennis has long championed community cohesion, civic pride, and the celebration of Lincolnshire’s heritage – values that lie at the heart of the Spalding Flower Parade.

“Sir John brings decades of public service, advocacy, and commitment to the people of South Holland. His long-standing support for local traditions and community-led initiatives strengthens the parade’s mission to inspire, unite, and celebrate the district.

“Coun Whitbourn joins the parade as a patron with deep local knowledge and a passion for civic engagement.

“Her leadership and dedication to South Holland’s residents make her an invaluable ambassador for the event.”

Mick Deveney, director of the Spalding Flower Parade Community Interest Company (CIC), said: “Their commitment to our community and their belief in the parade’s vision will help us build a stronger, more inclusive, and more ambitious event for the whole of Lincolnshire.”

Sir John said: “I am honoured to recognised by the Flower Parade CIC as we work together to plan the 2027 parade.

“I strongly back the work of the CIC in celebrating local heritage and boosting community pride as its plans next year’s parade. I will continue to do everything I can to make the parade a success in future years.”
