Tigers and Knights build for start

Holbeach United’s latest pre-season match brought a 2-0 defeat to Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division side Downham Town.

The hosts put on a good show against the reigning Norfolk Senior Cup cup holders from a level higher.
Holbeach were due to take on Boston United u23s at Carter Park on Wednesday in a match in memory of Holbeach legend Pete Cousins. It gave fans the chance to see the latest signings. Joining the club are striker Farhan Raja and left-back Isaac Bassendine-Matthews, who was a regular in Peterborough United’s u19 team last season. Forwards Jordan Keeble and Boston Cash have also agreed to stay.
Holbeach have two more warm-up matches – at Soham on Saturday and Bourne next Tuesday – before travelling to Needham Market Reserves for their league opener.
Fellow Eastern Counties League Division One North side Pinchbeck United were also due to be playing on Wednesday, with Deeping Rangers the visitors to the Glebe Field in the village. They complete their preparations next Monday with the visit of King’s Lynn Town u23s, 7pm.
On Saturday, the Knights were denied a share of the honours at Bourne Town, when they conceded a late goal to slip to a 1-0 defeat.
It was a battling performance from Pinchbeck and gave them lots to build on ahead of their league kick-off at home to Wivenhoe Town a week on Saturday. Pat Kacirek and Oliver Fields are the latest to sign for Pinchbeck.
