Teeing off to raise £6,451 for Marie Curie

Spalding Golf Club has marked a successful year of fundraising, collecting an impressive £6,451.21 for Marie Curie.

The money raised will go towards supporting the UK’s leading end of life charity including its local nursing service in Lincolnshire.
Elected Club Captain, Jim West, nominated Marie Curie as his chosen charity.
With the help of his wife, Sally, Lady Captain Lizzie Cooke and Vice Captain Trevor Thorley, Jim held various events including a captain’s day, race night, quizzes and raffles.
Jim said: “It was Sally’s idea to choose Marie Curie because her family had support from them when her father was in his last days.
“I make no secret that it was tough combining full time work with being captain but seeing this fabulous total made it all worthwhile.
“People have been so generous. The other club captains were very supportive and allowed profits from some of the club functions to go to my charity rather than jointly to all of them.
“Sally has been the person who has really helped me through the past year.”
Lauren Alexander, Senior Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Lincolnshire said: “Jim and Sally have been a delight to work with. From the moment, I met them I knew they were going to achieve great things.
“They both work in addition to their much-loved hobby and have raised £6,451.21 in this year’s captainship!
“It’s thanks to our amazing supporters like Jim, Sally and Spalding Golf Club that Marie Curie can provide expert care for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from.”
