Winds reaching 77mph hit South Holland on Sunday afternoon ending the recent heatwave with a bang.
Trees came down and trampolines took to the skies as storms merged to create a noisy and wet end to the afternoon.
Emergency services were called on when the sudden arrival of the storm caused local damage and flooding.
The Met Office confirmed that wind speeds had hit 77mph in the Holbeach area.
“There was little sign of tornadic activity on our radar, there were, however, very strong straight line winds which gave a gust of 77mph at Holbeach.
“This is a notably high wind speed to be associated with thunderstorm activity in the UK,” said a spokesman for the service. There were also more than 19,000 lightning strikes recorded in the county.
Residents took to social media to share the storm watching and to warn of fallen trees.
The A17 near Penny Hill was closed for a while after a tree crashed across the road.
Fenland Garage and Recovery, from Gorefield, moved it.
“I volunteer my services to the local authorities to assist with such incidents,” said the company’s Facebook post.
“Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended a few storm-related incidents on Sunday afternoon,” said a spokesman.
“The Crowland crew attended a house in Deeping St Nicholas where the storm caused roof damage.”
There were also incidents across the county with flooding in Mablethorpe and Althorpe.
