Stereotypes return after five decades

Just about half a century after a band formed, released a now very rare single and promptly broke up again –they’re returning to the stage.

The Stereotypes were a punk group which started life in Essex during 1977.

They played several venues and released the Countdown EP to adoring fans in 1979.

That vinyl with four tracks is now worth around £1,200 due to its rarity (only 100 were pressed).

But with five decades under the bridge, lead singer Ashley Grant is once again behind the mic for gigs and there has been radio interest in Europe and the USA, where LA-based Crymwav hail from and they will be joining The

Stereoptypes for a Peterborough gig on March 19. Also on stage at The Lime Tree will be Chelmsford band The Viral Breakdowns.

Now local to Spalding, The Stereoptypes singer Ashley is joined by Matt Farrow (drums), Darren O’Mahony (bass), James Harrison (guitar) and John Budd (guitar).

The original line-up were all from Essex and the current members have played a festival or two in the county at the back end of last year, but the Peterborough gig will be one of the biggest in a while.

The Stereotypes released their debut album ForWard in 2021, just 42 years after the band formed and there are plans for new music this year

Tickets are £5 and are available from https://wegottickets.com/event/689103
