‘Idiot’ defaces RAF memorial

A call has gone out to homes in Long Sutton which might have doorbell or security cameras.
A memorial sign in Winfrey Park marking 100 years of the RAF has been defaced, and the council has reported it to police.
“Some unspeakable idiot has defaced it with the swastika sign, which is a deplorable, unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” said parish clerk Karen Treacher.
“We have never had this before and we don’t want it again,” she said.
“The RAF is very much valued in our town and local area and has a long history with Long Sutton.
“It is a shame that a memorial to our armed forces in memory of all those who have served has been defaced with such a vile symbol of hate oppression.
“Whoever did this should hang their heads in shame for being so disrespectful, there is no room for such hate in our town and if the culprit is caught the council will seek to report the vandalism as a hate crime and seek prosecution.”
She is also asking people who live in the Bull Lane area of Long Sutton to check their CCTV or doorbell cameras to see if the culprit is on-screen.
If anyone can help, contact Karen at the parish council office, email: [email protected] or telephone 01406 362780.
