Snooker round-up: Services C shine to stall Sutton Bridge B’s top tier title charge

Services C picked up an eye-catching 5-1 win over Spalding and District Snooker League Division One title chasers Sutton Bridge B on Thursday night.

Bridge, who were joint leaders at the start of play, came unstuck as Nigel Cherry (O14), Shane Cummins (O21), Jordan Philpott (R14) and Kev Fitter (O28) all managed frame wins to steer Services to a superb victory.

Stuart Atkin (O49) and Sean Swinburn (O49) trousered breaks of 26 and 29 respectively for Sutton Bridge, but they lost ground on their rivals at the summit.

Pyramid C leapfrog them in the table after a 6-0 triumph at Consti B. Spencer Dawkins (O56) starred for them with breaks of 46 and 20 in the second frame.

Also on form were Bourne SC A, who saw off hosts Pyramid D 5-1.

Breaks of 40 and 20 from Mark Gray (O105) helped inspire the visitors, while team-mate Pete Hodson-Kerry (O21) made a 30 break and a 22 clearance.

Another strong break came in Services A’s 4-2 win at Consti E, with Bren Bowman (O56) bagging a 40 in defeat.

The all-club affair between Holbeach’s A and D teams went the way of the latter, who jumped off the bottom of the table with a super 6-0 success.

In Division Two, leaders Bourne SC C bounced back from their first loss of the season to edge out Services E. Jack Chilvers (O14) settled the contest with a win over Russ Morse (O7), making a 21 break in the process.

It’s as you were with the top two, though, as second-placed Sutton Bridge A also won 4-2 against Donington B.

Shane Balding (O42) won the final frame there to seal the success and added breaks of 25 and 22 clearance in the process.

However, Consti F are now level in second after a stellar 6-0 victory over Donington A.

Warren Peel (twice, scr), Justyn Stanley (R7), Martyn Stanley (R21) and Brian Turnell (R14) were all on winning form in their respective frames.

It was a lot closer between Holbeach F and Boundary B, with James Quinton (O7) clinching the contest for Holbeach with the final frame to seal a 4-2 success.

Down in Division Three, leaders Gosberton B made it eight wins from nine with a 4-2 victory at Whittlesey B.

Warren Driver (R21) was victorious in the penultimate frame to secure the victory for the table-toppers.

Second-placed Pyramid B came a cropper at home against Consti I, who returned from Bourne with a 5-1 triumph. This was a very close contest, with three of Consti’s four wins being on the black.

Fellow high-fliers Gosberton C were on winning form, however, as they saw off Consti A 4-2. Again, three of the five frames went to the black with Andy Shephard’s (R21) narrow victory in the penultimate frame seeing Gosberton home.

At the other end of the table, there was a welcome win for Consti D as they saw off Whittlesey A 4-2.

Tom Digby’s (scr) black ball win over Andy Gebbie (R7) in the deciding frame settled that showdown.
