Plans for 103 new homes in Holbeach passed

Plans for 103 new homes in Holbeach have been approved.

Gleeson Regenerations told South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee last night (Wednesday, November 10) the development on land north of Northons Lane and Oakwood Glade will be aimed at first time-buyers and key workers.

There were 22 letters of objections, including from ward district councillors, Holbeach Parish Council and MP Sir John Hayes.

Councillors raised concerns about traffic on surrounding roads, particularly around William Stuekely and Holbeach Primary Schools.

But Coun James Avery: “The South East Lincolnshire Local Plan was adopted in 2019 and the plans inception was 10 years ago, so for some considerable time it’s been known Oakwood Glade and Cedar Drive would be the connecting points for this development, so that’s within the plan.”

He continued: “I think this is a good application. There’s very healthy education and health contributions in there, a good level of affordable, it’s policy compliant, there’s green space and I can’t fault it.”

The approval is subject to the signing of a Section 106 agreement intended to provide more than £500,000 towards education in Holbeach as well as £68,598 for health care services.

Steve Gamble land director of Gleeson Regeneration said: “We always look to ensure prices are available for first time buyers in the area.

“In this development we intend to sell houses with a starting price of £165,000 for a two bedroom home.

“This means the house is affordable in mortgage terms for a couple in full time employment on minimum wage.”
