Booking system at county tips to go live in November, councillor says

The new booking system to drop waste at Spalding Tip and other Lincolnshire recycling centres and will be implemented in November, a councillor says.

They hope this will deal with queues at the town’s West Marsh Road site and others in the county, writes Local Democracy Reporter Jamie Waller.

People will be able to book on the day, with alternative booking options available for residents unable to access digital services.

Coun Danny Brookes, the council’s executive for the environment, is due to provide an update at the full council meeting next week (Friday, September 18).

“The booking system plans to reduce congestion, improve site safety, tackle misuse by non-residents and commercial operators, and support better recycling performance,” his report says. “Officers are now developing the implementation programme, with the system expected to go live in November.”

He has also pushed back against claims that a booking system will lead to more fly-tipping.

“This is a concern that I fully understand and one that we will continue to monitor closely.

“However, evidence from other local authorities operating comparable booking systems does not demonstrate that their introduction leads to an increase in fly-tipping.

“We will continue to monitor Lincolnshire’s own data following implementation and respond if any evidence of an adverse impact emerges.”

The council says that the amount of waste which the tips deal with has increased dramatically over the last few years.

The centres receive more than 1.2million visits per year, creating 66,700 waste – 50 per cent more than in 2021.
