Shock loss for leaders

It was a week of maximum wins in four out of five fixtures in the Spalding and District Billiards League.

League leaders Donington B were on the wrong end of a 7-0 result, as they lost to Gosberton.

Neil Reynolds (o65) lost only his fourth game of the season to Marcus Pell (o50).

Pell again had lady luck on his side, but hit breaks of 30, 28, 21 and 20 to run out 200-25 winner against Reynolds.

Giving in effect a 400-point start to John Clapton (r120), Broadway’s Roxton Chapman (o280) gave another master class of billiards as he won 200-156, Chapman hitting breaks of 200, 103, 37, 23,20 and a 52 unfinished.

John Dawson (r65) pulled it level for Holbeach with a 200-151 win against Alan Hansard (r65), Dawson achieving his highest break of the season with a 36.

A nervy finish to the night was had, as the points could have gone either way, but Ben Harding (scr) won by just one point against John Bellerby (r105) 200-199, Harding having breaks of 30 and 26.

It was a bottom of the table clash as Donington A entertained Services, but Donington moved out of the bottom two with a 7-0 win.

Nigel Brasier (r50) took the first 200-152 against Chris Dunmore (o10).Making it two up was Ben Wrigglesworth (r20) as he defeated Phil Spencer (r75) 200-147.

It was left to Tony Scully (r55) to wrap up a good night for Donington as he had a big win of 200-101 against Vince Fitter (scr).

With only two weeks to go this season, and Broadway having a game in hand over Donington B, it has become a two-horse race for both new teams in the league this season as they are guaranteed to finish as top two.

The plot twist is that the final fixture of the season sees Donington B host their rivals Broadway.
