School’s Hairspray performance played to full houses

HAIRSPRAYStudents wrapped up the school year at Sir John Gleed School’s with their production Hairspray.

The show is a 1960’s classic showcasing comedy, romance and the integration of black and white students in a local TV talent show.

The music was upbeat, racy and very “shake those hips and dance in the aisle” style.

The school played to nearly full houses on Wednesday and Thursday and had a sellout performance on Friday with disappointed people being turned away.

School spokesman Anthony Grunwell said: “Wow! What a stunning performance every night! Fast, pacey and slick in its execution with the all student cast and running team delivering a highly professional show suitable for the West End stage!

“Link Larkin (Daniel Russell) and Tracy Turnblad (Rebecca Braccialle) brought the show to a romantic end as they led the whole cast in a stunning finale and curtain call bringing standing ovations every evening.

“What a wonderful professional performance from all but credit must be given to Edna Turnblad (Dominic Taylor) and the cheesy Corny Collins (Andrew Tarplee) for their exciting and believable portrayal of their roles.

“A memorable performance was given by all leading roles supported by an equally talented dance troupe and chorus.”
