Saturday football: Spalding United off to a flier, in-form Pinchbeck win again, Holbeach and Moulton Harrox both hit for six

Spalding United made the perfect start to their new Pitching In NPL Midlands Division season with a 3-0 win over Daventry Town on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United won 2-0 at AFC Mansfield in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North and Holbeach United suffered a shocking 6-1 loss at Debenham in Thurlow Nunn League Division One North.

Starting with Spalding, they sit top of the day one table after sweeping aside Daventry at a sweltering Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

After a goalless first half, three of the Tulips’ new attacking signings all netted within 11 minutes of each other with Jordan O’Brien (pen 51), Bradley Rolt (58) and Eliott Sandy (62) on target.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck’s impressive form continued as they picked up their first away win of the season and made it three victories and a draw in their last four games.

Strikes from Andre Williams and Harry Peasgood secured a 2-0 triumph at AFC Mansfield and moved Lewis Thorogood’s side up to the heady heights of seventh in the early standings.

However, it was a day to forget for Holbeach as they were thrashed 6-1 at Debeham and given a better reflection of the standard they can expect in their new surroundings.

Full of confidence after their 4-2 win over Needham Market U23s (who lost 7-0 on Saturday) last week, the Tigers went 1-0 ahead early on with Ted Haime getting his first goal for the club.

But that was as good as it got for Danny Clifton and Simon Roberts’ side, with Reece Golding getting four of the home side’s six goals on the day.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox made a shocking start to the new Dor-Jan Windows & Doors PDFL Premier Division season as they were thumped 6-1 at an FC Peterborough side who were only promoted after finishing third in the second tier last year.

There was better news for Crowland Town as they hammered Ramsey Town 5-1 at Snowden Field, while Holbeach United Reserves drew 2-2 with Stamford Belvedere at Carter’s Park and Tydd lost 4-0 against champions Uppingham Town.

In Division One, relegated Long Sutton Athletic were hammered 6-0 at home by Peterborough City, while Holbeach United Sports started impressively with a 5-1 victory over Eunice Huntingdon.
