Saturday football: Spalding United held after duo depart, Pinchbeck suffer key defeat

Spalding United were held 2-2 by Kidsgrove Athletic in BetVictor NPL Division One South on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United went down 2-1 at Cogenhoe United in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division.

Starting with the Tulips, they were without key players Jenk Acar (transfer to Skegness Town) and George Zuerner (set to join a new club) at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, with both departing the club in the wake of Matt Easton’s resignation as boss.

Still, the knuckled down and took a 1-0 half-time lead when Kegan Everington fired home on 41 minutes.

However, two quick goals from Kingsley Adu Gyamfi (67) and Ruben Wiggins-Thomas (pen 73) put Kidsgrove into the lead with time running out.

Joel Brownhill immediately restored parity, but the Tulips couldn’t find a winner and were forced to settle for a point.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck’s 2-1 defeat at Cogenhoe leaves them eight points from safety at the foot of the table.

Dennis Nkrumah and Alejandro Nwafor got the goals for the hosts, with Pinchbeck level at 1-1 at one point thanks to an own goal.

More to follow.
