Saturday football: Duggan stars in Tulips’ bore draw, Tigers hit back for point and Pinchbeck beaten in FA Vase

Spalding United’s search for a first league win of the season dragged on as they drew 0-0 with fellow strugglers Pickering Town on Saturday, while Holbeach United battled back to hold Cogenhoe United 2-2 and Pinchbeck United exited the FA Vase 2-1 at Woodbridge Town.

Starting with the Tulips, they had a man-of-the-match display from keeper Michael Duggan to thank for their point at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

He saved Ryan Blott’s first-half penalty in an otherwise boring draw in what was Matt Easton’s second game in caretaker charge of the team.

The stalemate is Spalding’s fifth draw from six league games this season and they are now the only side in the division without a win.

There was more entertainment at Carter’s Park, where Holbeach hit back from going 2-0 down with ten men to pick up a decent draw.

Thomas Iaciofano gave Cogenhoe a 43rd-minute lead, then Ryan Dove doubled the lead from the penalty spot on the hour after he was fouled by Joe Braithwaite. The Tigers defender was sent off for the tackle.

However, Seb Hayes’ side hit back 17 minutes from time when Josh Ford buried a penalty. They then levelled when new signing Declan Rogers lobbed home ten minutes from time.

The draw extends Holbeach’s run without a Future Lions UCL Premier Division win to three games, but at least ends their streak of two defeats on the bounce.

Pinchbeck United, who remain top of the UCL Premier Division, were went out of the FA Vase after going down 2-1 at Woodbridge.

The hosts went ahead on eight minutes, only for Fraser Bayliss to level with a stunner soon after.

Parity didn’t last too long, though, as Woodbridge grabbed the winner on 21 minutes.

The Knights searched for a second equaliser after the break, but Jack Smith’s red card didn’t help their cause.

There was one big positive for Pinchbeck however, with the club announcing that player/boss Ian Dunn and number two Allan Ross have agreed two-year contracts with the club prior to kick-off.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox dropped their first Premier Division points of the season as they were held to a 3-3 home draw by Peterborough Sports Development.

But Kev Nottingham’s charges are four points clear of Thorney at the top of the table.

Holbeach United Reserves are up in third after a great 4-0 victory at Polonia, while Long Sutton’s upturn in form continued with a 2-0 triumph at Stamford Lions.

Also on winning form were Sutton Bridge United, who beat Langtoft United 3-2 at Memorial Park.
