A classy Gary King free-kick earned Spalding United a 1-0 friendly win at Rainworth Miners Welfare on Tuesday night.
The goal was the Tulips’ first in pre-season and also King’s maiden strike back in blue.
The victory was a welcome boost for Chris Rawlinson’s charges, who slipped to a 1-0 reverse at ChromaSport UCL Premier Division outfit Boston Town on Saturday.
This Saturday sees Spalding welcome another UCL Premier Division side – Peterborough Northern Star – to the Sir Halley for a friendly clash (3pm).
The Tulips are also in home friendly action on Tuesday, with Kettering the visitors (7.45pm).
- Holbeach United warmed up for their opening ChromaSport UCL Premier Division fixture against Sleaford Town on Saturday with a 2-2 friendly draw against Stamford at Carter’s Park on Tuesday.
George Zuerner and Stacy Cartwright were the scorers for the Tigers, with ex-Holbeach ace Jake Duffy netting one of the Stamford goals.
- Pinchbeck United were 2-1 winners at Boston Town on Monday night thanks to strikes from Andrew Tidswell and Josh Smith.
They begin their UCL Division One season at Huntingdon Town on Friday night.
- Long Sutton Athletic, who begin their season against Tydd St Mary on Sunday, were beaten 3-1 by King’s Lynn Town Reserves on Tuesday.
