South Holland’s Poet Laureate has been crowned at a special ceremony.
The competition was launched by Spalding Gentleman’s Society thanks to a National Lottery Awards for All grant, with a panel of judges eventually choosing Miles Green as winner with his composition Jubilate (Rejoice).
The eight shortlisted finalists recently gathered at the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society museum for an award presentation and reception.
The judges had a difficult time choosing the winner as the standard was so high, but in the end Miles’ poem was picked as the best.
The project coincided with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the poems all paid homage to the Queen and her 70-year reign.
Miles will now work with the museum and other local organisations, to produce further works for the area.
All entrants were given a jubliee medal and certificate, presented by judge and deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire William Webb.
Miles’ poem will be displayed in the Broad Street museum.
Harrison Fuller, of Young Technicians Academy, recorded all the entrants reciting their poems.
