Garden to remember veterans

A new garden to remember armed forces personnel who have lost their lives has been unveiled at a Fleet Hargate motel.

After years of raising funds to take veterans back to place likes Normandy, Harold Payne has been more recently raising money for the garden in the ground of the Anglia Motel he owns. It includes 1,000 roses.

Last week the garden was given an official opening with veterans among those in attendance.

Mr Payne said: “The garden looks absolutely brilliant and the event to unveil it went fantastically well.

“We had over 100 people come and look round and it’s a really fitting tribute for those that lost their lives.

“We’re now looking to raise £2,000 for a new memorial and looking to put a planning application in soon.”
