Pinchbeck United swoop to secure deal for Wilson ahead of Nirvana ‘acid test’

Pinchbeck United have completed the eye-catching signing of Wisbech Town ace Luke Wilson.

The Knights swooped to sign the versatile defender after the Fenmen snapped up ex-Holbeach United defender Nick Jackson.

Having spent four seasons with Wisbech, Wilson is used to operating at the top end of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division – and Pinchbeck player/boss Ian Dunn admits that he’ll always be in the market for that kind of player.

“Luke is a big signing for the club,” said Dunn. “There was a bit of a domino effect with Wisbech signing Nick Jackson after Holbeach had signed Joe Braithwaite.

“I spoke to Wisbech and as soon as it became clear Luke was available and keen, we moved very quickly.

“He’s got great experience at this level and is used to being at the top end of the table.

“We’ll always be in the market for that kind of player and he suits what we’re trying to do here.

“I know Luke well and he knows a lot of the lads too, so he’ll fit in perfectly.

“We’re very happy to get him on-board.”

Having exited the Emirates FA Cup 3-0 at Rothwell Corinthians last weekend, Pinchbeck are hoping to get back to winning ways when Leicester Nirvana visit the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (3pm).

Having finished in the top six in three of the last four seasons, Nirvana are recognised as one of the tougher tests in the division.

With the promoted Knights having only faced Rothwell Corinthians (twice) and Boston Town so far, Dunn feels it’ll be an “acid test” for his charges.

He added: “It’ll be a real test for us. After the disappointment of last weekend, it’s a tricky fixture for us to have.

“It’s probably a bit of an acid test for us, they’re one of the top sides.

“We’ll do what we always do and will set out to take all three points.

“I do think it’ll take us a few weeks to find our feet, though. Last season we didn’t really get going until about October.

“That could be the case again, but so far everything has been pretty positive – barring a few too many red cards.”

Pinchbeck have five players – Lee Beeson, Nick Bishop, Jack Smith, Tom Sergeant and Fraser Bayliss – banned for the clash.

But Wilson could make his debut and key midfielder Andrew Tidswell does return to the squad.
