Pinchbeck United’s battle to stave off relegation has been dealt a blow, with key defender Nick Jackson leaving for rivals Skegness Town.
The experienced left-sided centre-back, who only joined from Holbeach United at the back end of 2021, will leave a sizeable hold in the Knights’ defence.
Boss Lewis Thorogood isn’t fazed by the departure, though, as he prepares for an unpredictable Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North game at Melton Town on Saturday (3pm).
After last weekend’s fixtures it’s very much ‘as you were’ at the bottom, with Pinchbeck 16th in the 18-team division – two points clear of Selston having played four games more and five behind Newark, with basement side Holbeach United eight points adrift at the foot.
Saturday’s hosts Melton are seventh, with Thorogood admitting it’ll be a tricky test.
“Melton have been up and down,” he said. “They can beat anybody on their day and perhaps lose to anybody too.
“We’ll have to be up for the battle, they have some very good players.
“For us, nothing has changed. It’s as you were at the bottom, everybody lost and, in that respect, it’s another round of fixtures checked off.
“Despite the defeat to Gresley I think we emerged from the game with confidence as our performance was good.
“Sadly we’ve lost Nick to Skegness, but we can’t do anything about that now. It is what it is, unfortunately.”
