Pinchbeck put the pressure on leaders

Title chasing Pinchbeck ground out a hard-fought win over Grantham 3rd to keep them hot on the heels of leaders Boston in South Lincs and Border League Division Two.

The second placed side had to work hard at Gorse Lane in Grantham to secure the points, successfully defending a total of 192 for 8 to win by 24 runs.

Pinchbeck opted to have first use of the track and had progressed to 81-3 by the 20th over with Matt Kidd (38) and Ramsden (34) providing a solid base after the early loss of Danny Jackson (5).

However upping the scoring proved difficult and the visitors were indebted to a knock of 64 not out from Richard Riley. He was ably assisted by Robert Goulding (11) for a spell and particularly by Mike Knight (16) and Tony Sheppard (13).

Their runs batting at nine and 10 respectively proved crucial as it helped Pinchbeck up to 192 for 8 from 45 overs.

Grantham looked on course to surpass that as all of their top six made starts, but Pinchbeck were rewarded for their persistence by picking up wickets at crucial times.

Despite all of the batsmen getting going, Grantham’s top scorer was Ben Kennedy-Short with 26.

Mike Knight (1-27) and Andrew Beeston (1-17) sent the openers Dave Langsford (17) and Jared Hackney (19) back to the hatch.

There after it became the Danny Jackson and James Jackson-Loan show. Jackson had opposing skipper Mark Donnellan (15) caught by Kidd and Alex Hackney (24) caught and bowled as well as bowling Kennedy-Short.

It then became about running through the tail which the pair were able to do fairly comfortably.

Grantham were 168 all out, 24 runs short when they still had eight overs left in the bag.

Jackson finished with 5-44 from his 10 overs and Jackson-Loan 3-37 from 11 at the close.
