Need for less speed on road leads to safety bid

Hearing about a family being too scared to walk their daughter to school along Woolram Wygate has led to a man to step up his campaign for safety measures to be implemented.

Ray Ellison has been campaigning for safety measures on the road, but Lincolnshire County Council has so far turned down his requests for anti-speed measures.
A host of 30mph signs have now been put up on the road after being funded by district councillor Jan Whitbourn.
“I know a family who won’t walk their children along the main road because they feel it’s unsafe,” Ray said. “When it gets to that point, I knew we had to do something more.
“Someone’s going to get killed.”
Ray says he’s asked Lincolnshire County Council for measures such as chicanes, but was told a speeding survey in 2021 did not show a problem with speeding.
He’s also asked for a weight limit to be introduced as saying many HGVs use it to get from Bourne Road to Pinchbeck Road.
“It’s being used like an A-road and not just a residential street,” Ray continued, adding that he put together a petition calling for safety measures last year.
“Many of our houses are being shaken every time HGVs drive down the road.”
