More history for Pinchbeck United as they reach FA Vase first round in fine style with derby win

Pinchbeck United 3 Deeping Rangers 0

Pinchbeck United reached the FA Vase first round proper for the first time in their history after beating rivals Deeping Rangers 3-0 on Saturday.

First-half goals from Harry Peasgood and Andre Williams put the Knights 2-0 to the good at half-time, before a penalty after the break from Elliot Foster made it three at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Pinchbeck’s reward for the victory is an away trip to visit fellow Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North rivals Sherwood Colliery on October 22.

And boss Lewis Thorogood insists his side will have nothing to fear as he heaped praise on their performance against their South Lincolnshire neighbours.

“We did the job we set out to do,” said Thorogood. “Confidence was high amongst the group beforehand and this is another great win.

“It was important that we didn’t have to tinker with the team (that beat Selston 5-0 the previous week) and the result was equally as impressive for us.

“Deeping are a good side and we knew that they’d come out and be direct and physical against us.

“But we had a gameplan and everything went well. There was a good crowd and we played some good stuff, so I can’t really ask for much more from the boys.

“We’ve got a good squad this season and great competition for places – and it’s showing.

“We made history in the FA Cup and now we’re breaking more ground in the FA Vase.

“Before this season we’d not won a game in the competition, now we’re in the first round proper.

“I’m made up for the lads and the club. This run helps the bank balance, but also gives us great kudos by the coverage we’ll receive.

“We’ll be able to go into the next round full of confidence and have a good crack at getting another positive result, but also understand that the games get harder the further we go.”

After a goalless first 30 minutes, a cross from Foster was volleyed home superbly by Peasgood to give Pinchbeck the opening goal on his 50th appearance for the club.

Not long after, the lead was doubled as Williams unleashed a thunderbolt into the net.

It was all over early in the second half when Neal Spafford was fouled in the box and Foster sent the Rangers’ keeper the wrong way.

Knights: Smith, Worthington, Millar, Spafford, Simpson, Robson, Williams (Burdass), Stevens (Melson), Peasgood, Weir-Daley (Vieira), Foster. Not used: Wilkinson, Perry-Burdett, Johnson, Henderson.

Attendance: 132.
