Fast and furious best describes round two of Spalding Cycling Club’s 10 mile time trial league.
With sunny and dry conditions assisted by a good tailwind on the ride down The Delph, many riders in the 25-strong field posted personal best (PB) times – although not all were declared to race officials George Bellars, Sharon Fensom, Nicky Ellis and Jo Bellars.
Topping the results board again was Ben Moore – the only club member inside 23 minutes – with a PB ride of 22.45mins.
He was 57 seconds faster than Andy Bowser who, after a period of illness, returned to competition with 23.42mins.
Ross McGivern took third place with a fine 24.46mins in what was another PB ride.
A time of 25.11mins was enough to ensure that Simon Wright finished fourth overall, while another PB went to Mark Hills with 25.20mins.
Fastest lady was Natasha Tooley, whose 27.40mins time was good enough for eighth overall in the club standings and is believed to be a PB.
Sarah Bentley occupied 15th place overall for the second time, managing a time of 29.23mins that was just four seconds quicker than the previous week.
The ladies’ podium was completed by Nicole Flatters in another PB time of 33.53mins, while Katie Wright, although slightly slower than the previous week, finished with 36.48mins in another consistent ride.
The under-16s race was always going to have a surprise result.
With Matt Ellis and Jake Norton not present, the way was opened for Will Gurney to top the results board in a PB time of 28.30mins.
Second-placed Matt Hull got inside 29 minutes with 28.54mins, which is believed to be a PB for him.
Sophie Wright’s 32.18mins gained her one place in the overall standings as she finished in 17th overall and third in the under-16s event.
Meanwhile, Ed Gurney clocked a very creditable 37.43mins in his go at the discipline.
Other Spalding times: Derek Chamberlain 26.47mins; Frazer Wallis 26.48mins; Richard Flatters 28.08mins; Gary Bentley 28.17mins; Barry Drew 28.44mins; David Thornley 28.53mins; Paul
Kendall 29.42mins; Bill Wood 34.20mins.
Although Spalding’s guest rider numbers were down, times were faster for all – with Neil Palmer (Velo One) putting in the fastest time recorded on the night (22.09mins).
He was just ahead of Team Swift RT’s Chris Ward, who crossed the line on 22.30mins.
Bourne Wheelers’ Gareth Richards set himself a new PB of 26.02mins, while Rex Stamp took a huge 46 seconds off his previous weeks’ time to finish with 27.44mins.
