PINCHBECK UNITED 3
BUGBROOKE SM 1
Satisfied player/boss Ian Dunn reckons Pinchbeck United are “one of many” teams battling for the ChromaSport UCL Division One title after climbing up to third place on Saturday.
The Knights needed 60 minutes to break struggling Bugbrooke St Michaels down at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, with Dunn himself heading home at the back post.
Having dropped a few points from winning positions this season, the Knights could have been forgiven for cursing their luck when the visitors went straight up the other end and levelled through Adefolarin Ademidun.
However, two Ollie Maltby goals (76 & 80) got Pinchbeck the points their performance deserved – and left Dunn happy with their haul of 15 points from eight games.
The player/boss said: “If you had offered me third place after eight games, I’d have taken it.
“It’s always good to assess where you are after ten games, as it’s usually a good marker of where you’re likely to end up.
“By the looks as things – and as expected – we’re probably going to be one of many teams who think they can challenge at the top of the table.
“Saturday was similar to a lot of our games so far this season. They had a good spell at one point, but we also had a 25-minute period where we created so many chances.
“We finally got the goal after tinkering with our personnel at half-time, but we then saw our only mistake of the game punished with an equaliser straight away.
“Thankfully Ollie took two chances to make sure we got the points I feel we deserved.
“We were missing quite a few players, so to create as many chances as we did – and win – was very encouraging.
“Just like Blackstones on Wednesday, we knew that we could hurt them.
“It’s all about taking chances for us. We’ve created a bucket-load in every game really, but haven’t always taken them.”
Pinchbeck are back in action at Raunds Town in the UCL KO Cup on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
