A South Holland director and actor is back on our screens with a trailer for a serial killer themed series set in Holbeach.
Steph Genovese and his Holbeach Film Company have released the trailer for 15 and Killing It.
The company’s follow up to the also-South Holland set Dishonoured is to be filmed in 2022.
Set in and around Holbeach with the town’s Chosen charity shop the main setting for the trailer, the series is set to focus on a homeless and abused girl played by Mia Holley and her descent into the world of serial killing via her mentor played by Genovese.
Since going live online last Friday, the trailer has already had 6,000 views.
While Steph hopes it might find a distributor, the plan is to release it as part of a series on You Tube which would begin with a feature length opening episode.
“We just had so many ideas,” said Steph. “Originally it was going to be a movie but we wanted to develop the characters, particularly the main character and storylines.
“I think it’s catching people’s imagination as I don’t think there’s anyone who has done a film about a 15-year-old serial killer.
“You see two sides of this vulnerable girl who has been living on the streets and abused and then taking her anger and rage out on those that have done wrong.
“The original script was going to be a kind of ‘rags to riches’ story about a teen who nobody knew about her talents for singing, but there was just something missing, like some killings,” laughs Steph. “There will still be a singing side to the story line. Mia is a really good singer, but as she gets more successful with her singing people begin to recognise her voice.”
It’s set to be quite gory.
“We’re going to be showing everything in there, something like Squid Games, but this was written way before that,” Steph continued. “It’s a bit wrong really, but people want gore.”
Following the lockdowns Steph has filmed parts for the new Batman starring Robert Pattinson as well as for an undisclosed HBO series where he’s been filming in Cornwall.
But he’s equally enjoying creating 15 and Killing It with local talent, particularly highlighting Mia’s contribution in inspiring the series to be made.
“She’s a fantastic talent. I worked with her a couple of years ago and she was brilliant. I see a lot of famous people on sets such as Anthony Hopkins and Julie Waters and you can see instantly why they’re so good.
“This girl has the same aura. She does things and you just think, wow, she’s going to be a star.
“We’ve got a great local team involved which is a mixture of youth and enthusiasm which seems to work so far.
“Everybody is doing it because we love it and not for the money. If we can make some money then that’s brilliant, but if not the team won’t have lost anything.
“There’s potential plans for other series too. If people like it then we’ll keep doing it.”
The trailer, which is only suitable for those aged over 18, can be viewed here.
