Library move is backed

A plan to move Spalding Library from Victoria Street to the Red Lion Quarter will be an “improvement for customers” a councillor has claimed.

The Voice revealed last week Lincolnshire County Council is working to move the facility to Red Lion Street.

Coun Nick Worth, executive member for libraries is backing the move.

He said: “We’re currently working with our library provider Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) to move Spalding

Library to a new home in the Red Lion Quarter.

“Not only is this a newer, more attractive building, but it’s also in a more central location.

“This will be an improvement for our many customers and hopefully bring in new people.”

Several comments left on The Voice’s Facebook page expressed concerns over car parking.

Coun Worth continued: “With regard to parking, there’s a 79 space car park just around the corner on Herring Lane, and, in addition, a number of on-street spaces on the surrounding roads.

“The costs of the move will be covered by GLL, so there will be no additional cost to the council.

“We’re currently in the midst of the legal negotiations around the lease agreement.

“Once that’s in place, we’ll have a clearer idea of when the changeover might happen.”
