Although Tier 3 is enormously frustrating, currently it would not be right for South Holland to move into Tier 2 when the figures are moving in the wrong direction.
With numbers rising in South Holland and The Deepings, and the number of patients with COVID in Peterborough – which has been placed in Tier 4 (the highest level of restrictions) – King’s Lynn and Boston hospitals growing, we must all pull together for a little longer to shield those amongst us who are most vulnerable, protect the NHS, and do our bit to relieve the pressure on our doctors and nurses who are working so hard on the frontline of our NHS.
Though I am grateful to our MP, Sir John Hayes for fighting so hard for us to be moved down, I am more grateful still that he has looked with such care and consideration at the figures, the case numbers, and accepted the decision of the experts with grace.
We must remember that our Government and local leaders will always have to make a judgement based on the facts and the evidence when making these tough decisions, and continue with a policy of ‘flexible response’ to the changing facts on the ground.
With the vaccine, now being administered across the country, this brings hope to us all as we look to the New Year; let’s trust and pray this crisis will all be over by summer.
I hope everyone has the best Christmas and New Year possible as we look to 2021 with great hope.
