LETTERS – Thanks to Spalding firefighters

As a proud grandmother to six young children I was so happy to be able to visit Spalding Fire Station’s Santa’s Grotto with some of them last Sunday night.

It was an hour of pure joy in a difficult time for children, they have had to miss out on so many of the simple pleasures they would normally enjoy during this festive period, school parties, nativity plays, carol concerts etc.

It was exciting to go out at night (for us adults too!).

Santa Claus was genial and kind, the elves and Mother Christmas very amusing and the fire station was lit up and looking magical.

Even the queuing was exciting, the arrival of the emergency vehicle, complete with boat on its way back from a horse rescue was the icing on the cake for our 6, 5 and 4-year-olds.

A huge thank you to all the station crew and volunteer helpers who made this possible, they stood in the cold and rain for several hours over three evenings so children could experience some Christmas magic.

Well done and thank you Spalding firefighters.
