LETTER: Use drones to battle crime in Spalding

Just lately it is no secret the police are targeting hare coursing using drones and quad bikes, while they are doing this, crime and assaults in and around town is rife, by gangs of youths (wanna be gangsters) the police call them, they should use the drones to police town and the hotspots troublemakers usually hang out.

When they see them, move in and break them up and move them on, and before you all start screaming it will be an invasion of privacy, I say rubbish you have single seater planes, helicopters hot air balloons etc flying over your homes and you don’t complain about them.

The police have a job to do and they could cover a lot of ground much quicker using a drone rather than sending in a cop on the ground to check it out. As the thugs use high ground, like stepping stone bridge where me and my wife were assaulted, so they can run when they see police coming giving them a huge advantage of getting away.

With a drone their is little chance of getting away as they can monitor you and follow you from above, leading the police in on the ground as they do with the helicopter, except this would be much cheaper, putting the advantage back in the hands of police.

I say bring in the drones i don’t have a problem with them flying over my home if they need to. Only the criminal element will have a problem with that, and to that i say tough.

Mr Neil Bingham
Spalding.
