Launch of new art trail for town

New artworks to brighten up the riverside at Sutton Bridge are to be unveiled at a special event on Saturday (July 6).

Local residents have helped shape ‘Perch Here’ with the new sculptures based on local legends and the town’s history.
Boston artist Peter Tree has designed the sculptures created by local groups which will be revealed as part of a special fun afternoon at Sutton Bridge green from 1pm to 3pm.
It’s all part of the Sutton Bridge Place Making Scheme, a collaborative initiative between Lincolnshire County Council and Transported Arts.
A spokesman for Transported Arts said: “The event promises a colourful procession of artworks created by local children and a celebration of Sutton Bridge’s rich history, marking the launch of this new and exciting trail.
“The Perch Here project features specially designed perch seats and other bespoke elements created through a series of community participation events.
“The whimsical and anecdotal designs of the trail features were created by Peter reflecting the heritage and stories of the local community.
“Funded by the Coastal Communities Fund, these artworks were crafted with the assistance of the Long Sutton Men’s Shed, Boston and South Holland Woodcarvers, and the Long Sutton Youth Shed.
“The tree designs are inspired by the local landscape and heritage, incorporating elements like bee-inspired honeycomb structures, goose footprints, and motifs of local agriculture and marine life.
“Each piece tells a story, encouraging curiosity and engagement with the natural and cultural environment.”
The unveiling event will commence with a procession showcasing silk banners and suncatchers created by local schoolchildren in sessions with artist Donna Fox, followed by the official unveiling of the finished woodcarvings.
Attendees will have a chance to participate in the procession and discover the hidden details and stories within the artworks.
“Peter’s connection to the area and his passion for nature and craftsmanship are evident in his work,” the spokesman continued. “He hopes that the Perch Here trail will spark curiosity and bring joy to visitors, encouraging them to explore Sutton Bridge’s heritage and stories.
“The trail’s unique features, such as the treasure chest perch and bird-themed seats, are designed to reflect the community’s spirit and the local environment.
“Everyone is welcome to this free event, and the organisers look forward to seeing a large turnout. The event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate art, history, and community spirit in Sutton Bridge, and promises to be a memorable occasion for all who attend.”
