Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies team continued their fine form with a resounding whitewash win against Grantham in the Trudy Bates competition.
Spalding were determined to get revenge for their defeat in the reverse fixture and started strongly, moving a massive 50 shots in front at the half-way stage.
They eventually won on all rinks and secured a 145-49 (16-0 points) on aggregate victory.
It was a fantastic performance from everyone involved and the captain thanked Gill Haydon and Gill Fisher for filling in and to Michelle Billingsley for playing out of position.
The best winning rink was Irene Blackman, Jan Sinclair, Jenny Horner and Pearl O’Brien.
This result keeps Spalding at the top of the league, albeit having played a match more than the others.
The next league game for the ladies, their last of 2019, will be at Sleaford on December 11.
- Spalding IBC’s county mixed league team suffered a disappointing defeat at Louth.
They won on only one rink and drew just one other. That draw came from the rink skipped by John Needham, with John Laud, Janet Staples and Maggie Wheatley.
Spalding’s victorious quartet was a 19-17 win for Chris Williamson, Tony Westland, Gill Needham and Graham Wright.
Despite the whole team’s efforts, the overall points score was 15-3 in Louth’s favour.
- Sunday saw the friendly section of Spalding IBC played host to a team from Cambridgeshire Vice Presidents.
The VPs pushed Spalding all the way and even though the home team finished with a good win, some rinks could have easily gone either way.
On the fifth end, Spalding had pushed into a ten-shot lead, which they increased to a 32-shot lead by the tenth, before closing out a comfortable 119-78 win.
Spalding won on four rinks, drew on one and lost on one. The top winning rink was skipped by Mick Jennings, with Pat Cox, Hazel Tokley and Ivy Tyler. Captain was Roger Perkins.
